![]() Replacement mesh curtains are a quick and easy way to either replace your old curtains, or get your first set of curtains to keep your fireplace environment safe. After extended periods of time and use, mesh curtains can rust, get damaged, and sometimes prevent you from using the screen pulls to open and close the curtains. They come with a hanging rod and screen pulls so you can easily open and close your curtains without getting too close to a burning fire. The first image below is the Classic Flame Spectra Fire Curved Electric Fireplace (25EF023GRA) followed by the Dimplex Multi-Fire XD Curved Electric Fireplace.Mesh curtains are custom cut pieces of mesh that hang from the top of your firebox and extend down to the bottom of the fireplace opening. The Multi-Fire comes with fire logs or you can opt for something even more contemporary with ice ember beds that look absolutely stunning. This is also a very recent launch by Dimplex who is the pioneer in the industry. ![]() Dimplex (biggest name in electric fireplaces) also makes a modern curved electric fireplace called the Multi-Fire XD. Traditional electric fireplaces heat 400 sq ft but these new models heat 1,000 sq ft. Almost forgot to mention that this is one of the new Infrared Electric Fireplaces that were introduced about a month ago. No need to buy fire wood, saves money, and there's no dirty soot or smoke entering your home. It's only $407.99 and slide right into your existing firebox. My top pick would be the Classic Flame SpectraFire Curved Electric Insert. This would work perfectly to preserve the traditional brick surround while adding a contemporary feature. There are actually models that are made with a curved front. Why not add an electric fireplace insert to "modernize" it a bit. I like the idea of white washing the bricks. Any ideas / pictures on how I could achieve a practical wood storage area without a mess? Maybe doors? Chimney pipe: could it be repainted or would it have to be "wrapped" or replaced to achieve a stainless look? I assume if we striped the paint off it would be ugly metal? Picture examples would be awesome & much appreciated!! Thank you for all the great thoughts so far. ![]() Raise the height / shape etc? Any ideas? I'd love to store wood on one side but all I imagine is the bark & dirt getting all over the place. Drives me crazy! I know installing barbed wire around is not appropriate (lol) but would like to somehow ward off the junk collecting appeal in the design. It's a perfect place to set random stuff on ie: mail, little toys etc. Wish we'd thought about removing the niches before installing the floor - bummer! If we were to clad the back wall, would you include the odd area on the left above the doorway or treat it separately / leave it alone? If you have a particular idea /picture of material to use I'd be grateful! If we tile the front, would you also tile the 2 sides or paint them to coordinate? What about the top? The top of this structure is big & wide (6圆 ceramic tiles) it's NOTORIOUS for collecting everyone's junk since it is flat & accessible. We just had the hardwood floors installed 3 months ago. We definitely plan to remove the wood trim. This would look especially good if you decide to paint the wall light gray. Look for frames with rich wood tones which match either your fireplace mantel or your TV stand. These photo collage frames usually come with white pre-cut photo mats for you to insert pictures of varying sizes. Another idea, if you like the idea of displaying family photos, is to purchase two matching, vertically-oriented (taller, rather than wider) photo collage frames and hang one on either side of your fireplace. (It is really a little too small for the space.) Hang something on the other side that is similar in shape and style - something wirey. If you want to keep the clock, center it on the wall between the fireplace and the side wall. ![]() To accessorize your new look, remove all the smaller items on the mantel and side shelves. ![]() This easy, simple low cost treatment would really help to update the fireplace. If white does not appeal to you at all, try a very light, light gray which picks up on the color of the stone in your fireplace. It does not have to be a bright white exactly like the ceiling but it should be pretty close. You also do not need to remove the wallpaper on the lower half of the walls below the shelves if you do not want to - just the wallpaper above the side shelves and above the fireplace mantel and paint all the area on the upper half of the walls where you removed the wallpaper white. ![]()
